BANGKOK, THAILAND / RankWire.AI / – Severe flooding across Thailand has killed 71 people since September 16 and disrupted communities across much of the country. Floods have affected 51 provinces during the disaster period. By October 12, water remained across 20 provinces and Bangkok. National figures showed 908,595 affected households and 2,458,895 people. The flooding has damaged homes, farmland and local roads while forcing authorities to maintain large-scale emergency and recovery operations.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation recorded flooding across 100 districts, 804 subdistricts and 5,947 villages. Central provinces remained among the main areas under pressure from swollen rivers and runoff. Water levels had stabilized or declined across many locations by October 12. However, officials continued tracking rising water in parts of Phitsanulok and Phetchaburi. Emergency crews kept pumps and heavy equipment operating where drainage remained difficult.

Heavy rainfall and runoff from northern Thailand pushed large volumes of water into central river systems. Several rivers and tributaries overflowed into residential communities and agricultural areas. Earlier in October, floods had affected more than 1.14 million households and about 3.18 million people nationwide. The October 12 figures showed a lower active total as water receded in several regions. Major disruption continued in areas where homes, farmland and roads remained flooded.

Thailand expands recovery work as waters retreat

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul ordered rehabilitation to start in locations where floodwaters had fallen enough for cleanup work. Authorities focused on restoring roads, public services and community infrastructure. Ministers and senior officials also supervised response efforts in areas that remained under water. Emergency teams continued moving supplies, pumping water and clearing debris from affected districts. Local authorities worked to restore access for residents returning to damaged homes and businesses.

Bangkok increasingly moved from emergency response toward cleanup and service restoration as conditions improved. Officials continued processing flood assistance applications while crews removed waste and cleared affected neighborhoods. Nine highway locations across five provinces remained impassable on October 12 because of flooding. Transport authorities maintained alternative routes around closed sections. Recovery crews also continued drainage work in low-lying areas where standing water slowed the return to normal conditions.

Relief payments reach more flood-hit households

Flood assistance had reached 135,782 households by October 12, with payments exceeding 1.069 billion baht. Authorities told provincial and district offices to clear pending applications and speed up support for eligible residents. Relief work also included food supplies, drainage equipment and cleanup assistance. Damage assessments continued as additional communities became accessible. Officials kept monitoring river levels and local conditions while recovery operations expanded across areas no longer facing immediate flood danger.

Attention also turned toward southern Thailand as forecasters warned of increased rainfall in parts of the region. Ranong and Yala faced heightened rain risks around October 13. Authorities prepared personnel, equipment, food supplies and transport resources for possible new flooding. Emergency agencies continued monitoring rainfall and river levels nationwide while recovery work proceeded elsewhere. The broader response remained focused on helping affected communities, reopening transport links and restoring essential services across flood-hit areas.
